My Lunch Date With Lily - Real Clean Eating for Kids!

April 14th, 2008

I recently went to my 6 year old daughters school to have lunch with her.  As a treat I suprised her with her favorite Subway sandwich - A mini sandwich on wheat with turkey, lettuce, olives, carrots and mayo.  Most would consider Subway to be a very healthy lunch. I mean look at Jared right? Well I am sure the bread has high fructose corn syrup, the meat is processed, the olives canned, the carrots frozen, the lettuce is iceburg, and, well I dont  know much about mayo.  So like I said.  This is definitely a treat for her considering the way we normaly eat.  As we begin to enjoy our lunch together with all of the other children I look around and decide I should have brought  Subway for the entire class - anything would be better than the garbage in their lunchboxes and tray’s.

I see one little girl open her sack lunch that includes chopped up, cold hotdog, a gogurt (yogurt in a squeeze thing?) and a brownie.  YUCK!  F’n disgusting…This beautiful little girl will eventually suffer from obesity and diabetes - so much for being the cool cheerleader and dating the football team captain.

My eyes wander over to the little boy beside Lily.  Lets see.  We have a juice box, a lunchable, and thats it.  This is sad.  I decide that it is probably healthier to have the hot lunch on this particular day considering it included a salad bar.

I know that as mothers, especially working mothers, our time is limited and to be honest I think Moms are doing their best.  But in most cases that isn’t enough.  I think some are just plain lazy and cant wait to send the kids out the door.  I am guilty of wanting the kids out the door at times but I will never send them away without healthy food.  Their health and habits are dependant on you.  Start teaching them healthy habits right away and their lives will be healthy, strong and long!  I am often asked what I feed my kids.  Here is my daughters typical lunch and what the kids enjoy to eat most.  Also some healthy habits to follow and some big no no’s to look for.  Enjoy and be healthy.

1. Lily’s best lunch includes a tuna fish sandwich on whole wheat bread, a small apple, baby carrots, raw and salted sunflower seeds, and pretzels.

2. The kids favorite snacks include apple slices, smoothies made with organic frozen friut, ice and Whey Advanced protein, and whole wheat bagels (no high fructose corn syrup) with agave nectar and butter for my little guy.

3. Try to buy whole organic non processed foods.  I know it costs more but your children will be happier, their moods and health will improve, and in return so will yours.   You’ll make up the cost by having healthy children who don’t need to go to the doctor.

4.  Try to avoid sugar at all costs.  Save it for special occasions. There are too many negative side effects of sugar to name.  It is so detrimental to their health and has irreversible side effects.  Get rid of sodas and juices for good.  Try a natural soda:  Sparkling water, fresh lemon juice, a splash of fresh orange juice, and a sprinkle of stevia to sweeten.  Pour over some ice and watch the kids enjoy.  Make one for yourself while you’re at it!

5. Water, sunshine, healthy food, exercise and lots of love is all our little babies need.  Healthy habits start early and they start with you the parent.  So lead by example.  Happy families are healthy families!

Lily is so fortunate to have a caring and informed mom! I did the same with my little ones and now as adults they are very very healthy. Two of them are in their 30s, and have never had a tooth cavity, rarely catch a cold or flu, and have no serious diseases.

    Hi,
I am on the AM-PM Fat Loss Program and I have three questions which I have not found covered in the AM-PM Fat Loss Discovery E-Book:

    1) Since butter is a GOOD Fat, what about dairy cream to mix a scoop of the Whey into? Will that interfer with Fat Loss?

    2) What about rice milk–if used for the whey smoothie during the Fat Loss period, will it interfer with fat loss?

    3) Am I assuming correctly that potatoes, rice, whole grain bread, and corn are NOT good on the AM-PM Fat Loss Program?

That’s great that you are on the AM-PM Fat Loss Discovery. Congrats on your choice! I bet you are feeling great and really appreciating what you are seeing in the mirror.

Organic dairy is a great source of healthy fat. I (we) always mix a tablespoon into my smoothies for flavor and texture.

Rice milk is not a good choice for your smoothies. Too much sugar and way to many carbs.

Potatoes, rice, whole grain bread, and corn are fine as long as they are organic and combined with plenty of healthy fat and protein. Remember the other habits found in the AM-PM Fat Loss Discovery eBook. It’s not so much about “low carb” as it is eating frequency and combining the right foods.

Adhering to ALL the habits is the key to activating Hormone Intelligence Therapy (HIT).

Got to see Two Angry Moms!!!!!
www.angrymoms.org I showed this movie at my Tea Party at 2:00 on Tue series of health classes at The Life Emporium here in Lockhart, TX. Guess who did NOT show up? the Aramark school food rep.

After lunch with my grandson at his school, I have gone through the trash to dig out ‘evidence’ to display at my office. As a member of the School Health Advisory Council, I learned that they spend 82 cents per tray, but last year Aramark gave back $60,000 to the school district. (can we spell “kickbacks” boys and girls?) The Wash. Post ran a story 02/03/07 that the CEO of Aramark has over $1 billion in holdings, and has also made filthy money on buyouts; yet our kids get CRAP. Moms MUST get off their duffs and make Johnny’s lunch! Put these Corporate Caterers out of biz!!

I am a stay-at-home mom and I feed my 3-year-old fruit every day, broccoli or spinach or green beans every day and instead of wheat, I give her rice. Yet she catches a cold 75% of the time when she’s with other kids. Oh yeah, she has asthma too. So I’m at a loss as to what to do about bread, since I heard her wheezing after an almond butter sandwich on whole wheat. She eats raw carrots, apples, pears, blueberries, blackberries, mangos, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, cashews, walnuts, pecans, almonds and all the healthy foods. She’s allergic to dairy (diarrhea), so she doesn’t get yogurt or milk, but I give her some rice or soy milk though I’m not crazy about these options. I do everything in my power to help her eat right, even bake my own cookies with virgin coconut oil or organic palm shortening. Yet my daughter still has allergies and oh yeah, she’s allergic to echinacea too, so I can’t seem to boost her immune system in any way. Advice???

ac, has she recieved vaccines before, or did you recieve any vaccinations while expecting, especially a flu or mmr?

Your 3 yr old shares some simular symptoms with our 3 yr old.

I have been doing a lot of research this past week or so because I think I may be getting to the bottom of understanding what might of happened to our son. I am planning to call my OB/GYN’s office tomorrow, ’cause I got to know what vaccine booster I recieved while expecting our second child to see if the information I am reading in this book could fit our situation specifically. I want to find out if I can nurture our son’s immune system and healing processes along further.

We have also seen results with a gluten/casein free diet, but I feel that there is more progress we could be making. BTW, I read somewhere that rice milk is not gluten free. You could use almond milk as gluten-free alternative. I try to limit the consumption because it is high in sugar.

This book I’m reading is explaining some therapies used in kids suffering from the 4-A epidemic we are seeing, aka autism, ADHD, asthma, and allergies. The biomechanisms are all very simular.

Besides diet and allergen testings and removals, he used treatments for candida overgrowth accompanied by a yeast free diet, probiotics and herbal antifungals, administering testing for fungus elevations throughout the therapies, increased vitamin A with supplementation, and administered phosphatidylcholine, the main ingredient in lecithin, an intraveneous injection of glutathione (garlic is high in this), followed with various chelation therapies to remove toxins preventing the body’s natural bodily detoxification mechanisms of methylation and sulfation, first with DMSA, then later, which he saw success (he called it miraculous) with high dosages of b-12 mthylcobalamin & TTFD B vitamin thiamin. He added one more protocal to this, an intraveneous injection of the natural secretin hormone.

This treatment was successful at reversing autism, and I am looking forward to learning more about how these 4-A disorders are connected to eachother.

Also am curious to learn what other’s think of this, too.
