Health Magazine Forces Readers to “Eat Shit, Not Crap,” Enraged Chemist Grants Stinky Sulfur Award
Thumbing the remote looking for UFC, I came across something appalling – more so than watching grown men bash each other’s skulls in. It almost made me gnaw into my black leather wrist band.
Men’s health editor, David Zinczenko was hawking his latest health abomination, Eat This Not That! For Kids! And when asked by the twit show host, “What’s the best dessert for my kids,” Zinczenko replied, “Have them eat THIS Dairy Queen banana split with only 73 grams of sugar, NOT THAT Baskin Robbins Classic banana split with 125 grams of sugar.”
Do you think Zinczenko wants me to whack his head with THIS aluminum bat or THAT wooden one? Junk food swapping is just as dangerous, albeit much slower in its destruction. But essentially, that’s what he is asking parents to choose between when it comes to feeding kids dessert.
Eat This, Not That is a clever disguise for, Eat Shit, Not Crap.
I suspect his publishers felt the profanity wouldn’t sit well with parents, so they changed it at the last minute to the more politically correct, Eat This, Not That. The sticky sweet, diabetic bombs they call desserts stayed. And Men’s Health has been raking it in ever since.
The stench of Eat Shit, Not Crap blasting through the TV should have been a dead give-away for my Stink award to millions of Americans. The odiferous, sulfur smell penetrated my boob tube faster than Oprah eats dessert courtesy of her “food addiction.”
Eat Shit, Not Crap is a “how to book” for child neglect. It’s 100% nutritionally bankrupt, health advice.
The Zinczenko and Men’s Health publishing game is known as “pandering.” They cater to the lower desires and addictions of the masses by telling them what they want to hear, rather than what they desperately need to hear.
What Parents Want to Hear
“You don’t have to change your kids lifestyle to lose weight. Just make some simple food swaps and they’ll shed pounds, be healthier, feel better, and ultimately be more successful. If not, we have a pill for them, you unlucky son-of-a-bitch.”
Of course, nothing could be further from the truth.
Zinczenko, and his partner in crime Goulding, are fueling the metabolic syndrome epidemic on a mass scale under the pretense of health, while systematically pilfering our nation’s wallets and purses.
What Parents Need to Hear
“You’re feeding your pets better than your kids.”
When was the last time your dog ate Dairy Queen? Or drank its body weight in juice?
When was the last time your dog sucked a bowl of sugary Cheerios down his throat at 7 am, or lapped up a Go-gurt and soda for lunch?
Lancet reports that children who consume even a single sugary soda per day are 60 percent more likely to become obese.
The junk foods recommended by nutrition ignoramuses Zinczenko and Goulding, guarantees that obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer will continue to rise in this country. When your dog outlives your children, you’ll know why. And you can blame Men’s Health for it.
Men’s Health should carry a question mark at the end of their magazine title – “Men’s Health?.” That’s “honesty in advertising.”
Zinczenko has appeared on the Today Show 19 times to push his Eat This, Not That! book series. Impressive. When I wrote my book, Over-The-Counter Natural Cures, I was stoked with one appearance on Fox.
Every time he makes national news, Zinczenko singlehandedly shifts America’s discussion from, “Should we be eating sugar laden foods?” to “Which sugar-laden food will kill my kids slower?”
Sugar is the devil, period.
It’s more addicting than cocaine, and makes you look frumpy, ugly and old. And it makes kids hyper and unruly. In time, they grow obese, and end up watching my kids kick ass on the playing field, while riding the bench.
But never fear, the addiction can be broken, while still getting a “sweet fix.”
Make Picky Kids Skip Dessert
Mouth Watering, Sweet and Moist Desserts That Won’t Accidently Kill Your Kid
Picky kids don’t eat dessert in my house. If they won’t eat a scrumptious, all-natural meal from Mom (usually loaded with grass fed beef, chicken, fish or eggs, and crammed full of real butter, coconut oil, avocados, seeds, nuts and veggies), then they’re not hungry, and dessert isn’t an option. Otherwise, freshly made, quick desserts courtesy of Your Plate, Your Fate are always on the menu at my house.
With less sugar than an apple, our homemade desserts are more popular than anything from the store, especially with the chocolate ganache toppings and more. And it won’t put our kids in The Fat Cow Hall of Fame. Any parent can provide the same.
So, it’s with great pleasure I give my Stinky Sulfur Award to authors David Zinczenko and Matt Goulding for their Eat This, Not That! series. Eat Shit, Not Crap is guiding millions of hapless Americans down the road to sickness and premature death. Crack the book the next time you’re at Wal-Mart. See for yourself. Then put it back on the shelf, wash off the stench, and go post your one-star review at Amazon.com. Drop me an email when you do, with a link to it, and I’ll send you a personal thank you.

I work in a school and I’m amazed everyday at the crap children bring to eat for lunch. Prepackaged, sugar-filled junk. Parents need the truth about the garbage they’re feeding their kids, and the long term affects.

I wish you could have said it a little differently as the title will offend many and keep them from reading this. And this SHOULD be read and parents SHOULD understand what a farce this is. I myself was looking at the eat this, not that stuff and noticed that it did not advise you to “eat anything healthy”. Reminds me of things like “dumb & dumber” and “jumping from the frying pan into the fire”.
July 26th, 2010 at 10:03 am
You’re right. Too bad you get bashed for speaking the truth.
July 26th, 2010 at 10:10 am
Personally, your use of expletives tickles me. I am not offended in any way be hearing you tell it like it is. And, I say fuck those Men’s Health Magazine sellout losers.

It is so devious and slimy to pander to what one knows to be a mass epidemic of weakness of will where the ability to reason is all but gone.
These guys do that and, like Oprah, they build their fame and welfare off of other people’s gullibility and lack of courage.
Shame, shame.
Rather than tell it like it is, that everyone who has excess body fat is in need of a detox program complete with anti-withdrawl foods, they just keep feeding the fire.
From the author’s own website, “The average American consumes more than 160 bowls of cereal a year, so picking the right box could mean knocking 15 pounds off your waistline yearly and infusing your diet with massive doses of vital nutrients.”
It doesn’t take too much digging to realize that ALL pacckaged cereal is horrific rat food (rats often don’t eat it). To act like one is better than completely kicking the habit or treating it like “junk food” makes these guys frauds. The end.

Hello Shane, I think you are an absolute GEM, as you say in your book over the counter natural cures, if it tastes sweet spit it out.Keep up the good work! Irene

Shane,
Here is my review: http://www.amazon.com/Eat-This-Not-That-Kids/dp/160529943X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1280164426&sr=8-1
Books like this show us how much work we have to do to get people to eat healthier. I’m a holistic nutrition student almost done my MS at Hawthorn University. I’m glad to have you out there. I rely on your blog and web site a lot.

Just like drug pushers , this Zinczenko guy must be a psychopath .
Really sickening. Dan

I understand your rage at the injustice of someone like Zinczenko and his partner in crime at raping the American people of their health and pocket book. I agree the language does distract from your message so best to upgrade the language so more will receive the truth….the message will get to the point truly. I know I would love to send this article on to some lovely folks but the language would distract them and offend them…so what was meant to make a strong point gets lost. I have to admit, I gave the book Eat this not that as a gift without looking at it completely….I repent and will give this article to my daughter to whom is the receiver of that book….thank you for bringing this to our attention….I will try to not waste my money on such material by having a little more dilgence in researching a book first. Thanks again for your passion and information.

My wife and I really need to preech to our kids what we practice for ourselves. Pickiness is as pickiness does.

Hi Shane…
It makes me sick to think that these guys get numerous slots of media attention while your book got one slot of air time. Telling the people what they want has always sold, and its a shame we Americans are still suckers for the sell when logically if you think about it, what they are saying doesn’t make any sense at all.
It’s no wonder I have many family members who are obese and either have diabetes or are riding the fence post. We grew up on sugar and it took me moving to a whole new country to get away from eating out of windows and boxes. NZ is catching up though in leaps in bounds. The size of some of the kids on the play ground is mind-boggling.
On another note: I don’t expect there is any chance of getting your products here?
I have tried to find equivalents of the supplements you mention in your book. Fortunately we don’t have a Walmart market killer store here (knock wood) but it means we pay thru the nose for vitamins and supplements. There is always the Vitacost website and it seems their products are independently tested but you would never know really.
I have given your book to several family members and hope to give more out as soon as I can. My father has already taken action to reduce his heart medication (sextuple bypass), diabetes medication and a host of others he was on including mass doses of Vitamin D!
Thank you for keeping it honest.

If you don’t think we have a problem on our hands then go visit your local community swimming pool. What you will see there will revolt you more than the language used by Shane.
I can’t tell you how many boys I saw that had breasts like a 13 year old girl.
Most of the kids looked bad in a bathing suit and considering their age that makes me very sad.
Bottom line is people, especially children, need to have some role models, like Jack Lalanne and not that dimwit from Men’s Health.
When is our society going stop promoting “The Biggest Loser” and rewards for being overweight. I mean c’mon how’s that for aspiring to a new low…”gee mom someday I want to be on TV like those losers who just ate a bunch of junk and look they’re famous!”
Wake up and smell the shit, bullshit that is.
P.S. You might see similar people described above at your local Wal-Mart too, check out all the shit they are loading into their carts!
July 26th, 2010 at 4:35 pm
All of the foul language wasn’t necessary I’m with the other poster about that but what you say is right. It’s just too late in my opinion to help because so many parents and otherwise have just been brainwashed by the media, and medical teams.
July 26th, 2010 at 5:36 pm
Hi Shane, Great job and well said. Keep the healthy advice coming because we sure need it here in AMERICA! Thank you so much!
LUV!
July 26th, 2010 at 6:44 pm
Hi Shane, I totally agree with you, but I’ve been reading about health and nutrition for years now. while I don’t agree with the “healthier” swaps they reccomend, it really probably is opening alot of peoples’ eyes to what kind of crap they’re actually eating. It’s truly amazing how many people don’t have a clue about good nutrition. On this list , I guess you’re preaching to the choir, but I really think the Eat This, Not That series has begun to make the clueless more aware.
July 26th, 2010 at 7:29 pm
I agree with Shane – 100%! Parents are being brainwashed by people like this schmuck!
So many parents are to “busy” to plan for,or grocery shop and make proper meals. When really, its there own lack of priorities and organization! It’s okay – Lets just grab something quick, its so much easier! The kids are paying the price and parents wonder why the kids are always sick or overweight!!
YES,Zinczenko, and Goulding need to be smacked in the head!!! I say use the wooden bat, at least we’d get the satisfaction of hearing it crack!!
Thank You Shane for blowing the whistle on Bullshit!!
July 26th, 2010 at 7:38 pm
You have done it again Shane! I live in Australia and I believe we have just overtaken the US in obesity! Nothing to be proud of we face the same “crap” advertisments here – nutella for breakfast- margarine to combat cholesterol!Schools pushing drugs “chocolates” for fund raising, we know sugar from and early age builds a path to the pleasure center in the brain that makes it easier to get hooked on nicotine, alcohol and drugs later on – child abuse if you ask me. I wrote the only Australian book on Sugar addiction – Sugardreams…waking up to the bitter reality to educate parents and anyone addicted to sugar. I love your blog and your website, keep up the good work
July 27th, 2010 at 6:36 am
Speaking of schools, I found it maddening when my child’s school adopted a “healthy food choices” program, but continued to stock the cafe with crappy foods, allowed the PTA to sell chocolates as a fundraiser, and subscribed to a “service” from which we could purchase already prepared foods (many of which were fried or just off the shelf junk food in individual packages)! Talk about stinky…
July 27th, 2010 at 7:26 am
What the authors advocate as healthy substitutes are things we won’t eat anyway. Their choices are loaded with sugars and fat. But, they found a moneymaker.
July 27th, 2010 at 11:06 am
Hang in there, I cook for men at a mens camp and I need all the help I can get. Healthy food for a start and I need more healthy desert recipes.
Thank you

The participation is making waves, and helping others learn about this message. Thank you! Google can’t ignore it, and even better, when people search Eat This, Not That, they get your comments! Way to go.
@Suz, way to take action and post a review! Others need to do the same, just copy a line from this and use it for yourself and tell Amazon, why it smells like sulfur!
Thank you, really!

A lot of the guests on shows, state things that are not worth listening too. They must be paid by the same person who pays the HOST of the show.
He does not understand the problems that too much sugar in ones system can create. Also could not suggest an alternative. Knows nothing of Nutrition.Better to teach the children than the adults. Then there will be understanding, as you peek their curiosity.
July 27th, 2010 at 8:57 pm
I agree – The author Eat This, Not That and the publishers are probably directly or indirectly on the payroll of the processed food industry ala the American Dietetic Association. However I must add that, sadly, dogs would be better off eating Dairy Queen than what’s in commercial dog food!

Dear Shane Ellison,
Greetings!
Trust this email finds you and your beloved family in the best of health and in great spirits! Since you no longer respond to all emails and have recommended various options, here is my rejoinder.
My name is Arvind and I am from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Indeed, after perusing your rather intriguing book “Over-the-Counter Natural Cures”, I am interested in purchasing three of your products viz., Relief FX, Serotonin-FX and Cardio-FX. Well, I would like to know if there are suitable for Vegans.
Also, I would greatly appreciate it, if you could kindly advise me on a couple of other products in the market that I am keen in procuring viz., products from Xtend-Life and Risotriene from Healthy-Living. I am interested in finding out if the Folic Acid and Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) found in Xtend-Life products are safe. You see, after listening to your video clip on Folic Acid and Vitamin D, I am rather concerned, though I do know Cholecalciferol is the naturally occurring “Folate”!
Thanking you in advance and anticipating an early response!
Cheers & Regards!
Arvind

I think the language is hysterical, and reflects an appropriate level of passion and rage that has become so unfashionable in our Cream of Wheat, emasculated culture. For God’s sake, don’t anybody get mad about anything or use naughty words, it might “offend” some one’s delicate little sensibilities.
Wake up you morons – the richest fuckers on this planet are happily killing us by the truck load, and have successfully brainwashed all the fight right out of you. You can’t even bear to see a little harsh language. Shit. We’re doomed.
I bet most of you weep and cringe at words like “gun” and “liar”, too.
July 30th, 2010 at 12:23 pm
Shane,
Has it crossed your mind that in critiquing and giving any kind of award to cretins you give them weight they previously didn’t have? What we resist persists.
As to the question of language; when the fecal matter hits the rotating oscillators sometimes you have to get creative. Although i personally prefer the directness and brevity of good old fashioned anglo-saxon, I too am often chastised for my use of language. It has been my experience that those willing to hear will do so, regardless of verbiage chosen. Those who are unwilling, won’t, no matter how carefully and skillfully you choose your words. If you have a message, put it out there. However, you are likely to have greater success just publishing what you know works. Never wrestle with a pig in mud, the pig likes it! And you end up getting dirty. I would recommend, write it all and edit out the diatribes prior to publishing. It gets the craps out of your biological operating system and provides a clean slate for clear, concise logical thought and makes the presentation amenable to a wider audience. people don’t care how much you know until the know how much you care. A greater part of the population gets scared off by the feelings evoked than anything else. So, while there are some of us out here who can tell how much you care, by your choice of words and writing style, there are a whole bunch more who are alienated for exactly the same reasons. If your goal is to inform and help people learn to heal themselves; it seems to be exactly that, it might behoove you to find someone who can clearly grasp the science while still imparting the urgency of the need for change, without swearing, sarcasm and name calling. It seems I have just contradicted myself. My point here is, there are folks who just stop listening when the anger and resentment isn’t filtered out. One is presented with the need to unemotionally present facts that for the presenter create much emotion. When I find a need to be exceptionally clear i use a journal. I spill every drop of vitriol that shows up into the journal. Then I write the letter or presentation or whatever, it comes out much cleaner and clearer and at least gets folks to give it some attention. More than unedited presentations did.
July 30th, 2010 at 5:29 pm
This is war. We are soldiers. Emotions run high, because the stakes (life) are high. Emotional, committed soldiers don’t care if your feelings are hurt; there’s a job to do. Considering the nature of the enemy we are up against, it’s hard NOT to use strong language against those greedy bastards. –Granny

Way to tell it like it is shane! These books should be removed from the book shelves and burned! These guys have no idea of good nutrition and healthy foods.

Noreen,
What we resist persists? Rosa Parks act of resisting a bus driver’s orders to give up her seat to a white person made her an international icon of resistance to racial segregation. Her single act resulted in a global decrease of segregation.
Solving or correcting any problem starts with the awareness that it exists. What America is not aware of can be very harmful, and if so, must be stopped. What we are not aware of can kill us. My nephew and brother in law worked for Stuart Lumber company in Florida. Their job involved the handling of pressure treated lumber which contained deadly copper chromium arsenate (CCA). They were not warned to wear protective gloves or breathing masks when they touched and sawed the lumber. The result is that they both died of cancer within 18 months of each other due to contact with the carcinogens. The problem they didn’t know about – the fact that they were handling poisonous lumber – killed them slowly, and agonizingly.
To make positive change in the world, somebody must violate the so-called “Law of Attraction” and put their attention on the problem. In the case of my relatives, a wrongful death lawsuit and has been filed by my two sisters (mother and wife of the deceased). They are also doing news stories and other “resistive” activities to create national awareness.
With Eat This, Not That!, Shane has tasked himself with exposing something that needs to be exposed. Like dear departed Rosa, he must “resist” the problem (a couple of “lit twit” authors and their truly dangerous bestselling series of books)and write a Stinky Sulfur award to draw public attention.
Shane is taking action while the impotent Law of Attraction advocates sit back and attempt to “vibe it in” by removing their attention from the problem and contemplate their navel hairs instead.
What you resist, crumbles under the force of your resistance, if mighty enough.
August 7th, 2010 at 6:57 am
Chuck,
Don’t think about elephants for the next five minutes.
How’s that workin for ya?
Shane has demonstrated through his published book, this blog and his videos that he has a solution to the question of health care that a majority of this nation is looking for. It is a positive thing and I would dearly love to see it grow. As more people see, hear and accept his solution and pass it on; it does grow. Slowly, yes. And yet, it grows. And there is strength in the slow gradual growth. The kind of strength evinced by ancient redwoods. And that is the strength needed.
I’m not even sure Rosa Parks would have agreed with your assessment of her success. If I remember correctly her remaining seated had nothing to do with any kind of political statement, it was more a matter of complete exhaustion. And the illusion of wider racial acceptance and the “political correctness” most people demonstrate since then are more insidious than the overt racism of days past. At least folks knew where they stood. Look beneath the veil, see the reality. It’s ugly!
I am both saddened and enraged to learn of the losses you have experienced due to the lack of ethics and greed that continue to be encouraged in the name of, what?
Growing or maintaining the economy? Nothing life affirming, that’s for sure. If and when the suit is resolved, two people will still have died because of either a willful lack of ethics or a careless disregard for the well being of human life. Will the perpetrators learn from the experience? If so, what? How to hide it better next time? Or, real, heart felt concern and commitment to the well being of the people providing the actual labor that puts the money in their bank accounts? As long as there are actuarial tables that assign monetary value to a human life it doesn’t seem probable that those who bow to money as their god will ever learn real life lessons.
And yes, I am deeply and stubbornly cynical. The more I get to know people, the more I love my dog; and I don’t even have a dog anymore.
The lesson life itself has been pointing out to me is this, if I focus my attention on a problem, the problem grows. If I focus my attention on the solution, the solution grows. Shane offers a solution to the problem of how to get physically healthy and maintain that state. Without reliance on conventional medicine and what is called healthcare by talking heads with straight faces. I, personally, like his style. However, I also know from personal experience that the weakness of that style is…exuberant use of foul language and open expression of hostility has the effect of shutting some people down who might otherwise pay attention and even take heed of the message. And what is more important?
My goal for the past 18 plus years has been to heal, from inside out. Physically, mentally and spiritually. My progress has been glacially slow. And yet, progress there is. And Shane’s book has been a part of the progress in the physical aspect. I would dearly love for others of my acquaintance to share in this gift and what I know of them is they will not sift out the many gems because of what they see as emotional excess. Then again, it is possible I am wrong. Been wrong before and it is more than likely I will be wrong again. Ain’t life grand?
August 9th, 2010 at 1:22 am
Noreen,
Let me put the severity of this situation in perspective. The “Eat This, Not That” books series poses a threat to our national security! Why? Due to the proliferation of metabolic syndrome, heath care costs in America are on an “unsustainable” trajectory. If no action is taken by Americans to take charge of their own health and reduce federal spending on hospitals, doctors, nurses, drugs, wheelchairs, and surgeries, our government will go bankrupt.
Who gives a damn about what’s politically correct? This is serious business. We can’t afford to remain in our present hypnotic state. The message has to get out there somehow to snap us out of our lethargic sickness trance.
In 2010 we will spend $753 billion (21 percent of our $3.6 trillion federal budget) on health care. This is more than our defense and security budgets combined, even while engaged in two wars.
Only $2.2 trillion of the $3.6 trillion 2010 budget will be financed by federal tax revenues. The other $1.4 trillion will be borrowed from other countries. Add this to the $7.6 trillion that we already owe, and we will be paying $209 billion this year just for interest on the $9 trillion in loans from China and others.
How would you like to have a president who operated on a philosophy that what you resist persists? “Mr. president, satellite tracking has just revealed that North Korea and Iran have fired missiles from nuclear silos which are on trajectories for New York, Washington, D.C., and other major cites.” Obama; “What you resist persists, bring me a hot cocoa and turn on CNN.”
People who don’t like to put their attention on problems don’t go to all the trouble to do the above national budget math. They just figure that what they resist persists, and they look away and pretend that our country is fine and that everything will somehow work itself out.
Before we can focus our attention on the solutions for obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer, we first have to put our attention ON these epidemics, define them, determine the causes, and make the rest of the 300 million Americans aware as well. There presently is no national awareness that books like ‘Eat This, Not That” are helping us to become fat, complacent, and very sick.
Enter Shane Ellison and his Stinky Sulfur Award solution. Is that the sound of eggshells smashing that I hear?
